Advanced Technology For Extreme Function
There are some very good reasons why Blade Magazine recognized the Offset as the 2005 Knife of the Year

First and foremost is the Offset's rugged and uniquely complex blade geometry. Manufactured through state-of-the-art Metal Injection Molding (MIM) and hot isostatic pressing, the Offset's blade offers two bevel geometries, hollow and flat. This provides incredibly versatile cutting power for a wide variety of situations. The net-shape MIM process produces solid metal parts that combine the design freedom of plastic injection molding with material properties similar to wrought metals. With its inherent design flexibility, MIM is capable of producing an almost limitless array of highly compex geometries - a fact the Offset takes advantage of in order to create a quality 440C stainless blade with complex, true 3-D geometry.

Here's how the process works:
A blade mold is created and filled with a combination of powdered metal and binder. When it comes out of the mold, the blade is 20% larger than its finished size. The next stage of the process, sintering, removes the binder.

Once it is sintered, the blade has reached its finished size and is at a density of 94%. Finally the blade is HIPed under extreme pressure, approximately 32,000 psi, to increase the metal density to 99.7%. For extra durabilitya nd good looks, Kershaw adds a grey Chromium Nitride blade coating. The second reason the Offset wins acclaim is its special "Double Pumper" SpeedSafe® configuration. This is teh SpeedSafe® asisted opening system - plus. The Double Pumper features two torsion bars in order to ensure easy assisted opening for folding knives with larger blades - such as the Offset.

The Offset is also recognized for its dramatically textured, lightweight G-10 ahndles. With their deeply 3-D machined "spider web" pattern, the Offset's G-10 handles are as uniquely styled as its award-winning blade. On the practical side, the G-10 - which is an electrical and mechanical grade of glass cloth laminate impregnated and cured with epoxy resin - offers high strength, excellent electrical properties, and chemical resistance even in humid or moist conditions.

To keep the blade safely locked in the open position, the made-in-the-USA OffSet also has Kershaw's convenient and secure Stud-Lock®. It all combines to create an advanced, award-winning knife you'll be proud to own.
